Cognitive Ability and Vulnerability to Fake News

Scientific American:

Asked to rate a fictitious person on a range of character traits, people who scored low on a test of cognitive ability continued to be influenced by damaging information about the person even after they were explicitly told the information was false.

So what this translates to in plain text is basically: stupid people are more likely to be stupid all the time. The best case scenario here is educating people early enough comprehensively enough so they will be affected less by this phenomenon, not trying to prevent it in the first place, since that would be impossible. There’s an argument to be made about fundamental flaws in all currently existing societal structures.
