The obvious answer to the question “should we give up flying for the sake of the climate?” is “yes” – and they know it. But it’s not gonna happen unless there’s no way to do it at all.

Related: drivers in Germany were recently interviewed about their willingness to voluntarily reduce speed on freeways. Their overwhelming answer: they’d probably do it if it was mandatory. Choosing to drive slower by themselves is out of the question unless everybody’s doing it. It’s perceived as unfairly limiting when others can choose to act differently without penalty.
