Goodbye, Mr. Gruber
After well over 15 years of following Daring Fireball, a couple of weeks ago I unsubscribed from the site and unfollowed @gruber, who I feel is increasingly losing his perspective. Maybe being too close to something and possessing a powerful voice on the internet inevitably leads to grandpa syndrome, wherein one feels qualified to utter takes in a tone-deaf fashion on a large range of issues without having the first clue about them.
In my little world, he now follows Scott Adams into the empathy dustbin of the arrogance section. Somehow, many of the people I once looked to – for advice, inspiration, recommendations or simply an interesting opinion –, eventually end up as bizarre parodies of themselves showcasing their outsize egos.
